ML mentioned you and the whole "black homophobia" thing in a Village Voice article so I decided to check out his blog. Lo and behold, the first post I come across on his site is about how Israel is misrepresented by the media. He has comment moderation enabled and I have a feeling my post will never see the light of day, so I'm going to try to post it here:
This is my first time reading your blog and I only found it because you mentioned my friend, Diesel Washington, in a recent Village Voice article. It is beyond ironic that the first post I get to see on your blog castigates the media for portraying YOUR heritage in a way which you believe is false and harmful. Yet, you see no reason to pause and parse your comments in regards to black homophobia and porn models.
Yes, there is homophobia in the black community. There is homophobia is many different segments of American society (and Russian society, as I'm sure you're aware.) However, individuals in each of these societies have their own opinions.
I'm not that familiar with your work, so if it is true that you do use a wide variety of races in your productions, then I applaud that. However, that is somewhat akin to saying "Some of my best friends are black/gay/whatever, so all of my criticisms of that group are valid."
I like a guy who is informed and willing to be outspoken, but when it is obvious that someone is approaching a subject with a closed mind, his outspokenness is dangerous and he appears stupid. Living in Harlem for a few months does not make you an expert on blacks. What if I told you that I had developed a negative opinion about Israel because I had seen so many negative news reports about it? You'd probably think I wasn't too bright. (Judging from recent comments of yours', you'd probably label me as anti-semitic, as well.)
I don't know how black homophobia has affected who you cast, but I DO know that many producers choose not to work with black models because they feel they are not very marketable. From my pov, the latter probably has more to do with the dearth of black models in gay porn than the former.
This is where I take issue with you. You position yourself as a man of opinions, an analytical man, a man who isn't afraid to speak the truth, but it really is just the same old story.
